Profile

Hugh McAtamney is a lecturer and researcher in the domains of digital media and computer science. He is course chair in the Masters in Digital Games and Creative Digital Media and is founder of the Experimental Gaming Group [EGG] and the www.seriousgames.ie wiki. This group, in conjunction with the Learning & Technology Centre, focuses on developing and researching proof of concept education based ‘serious games’. It also acts as a portal to a portfolio of work for our students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

Students often contribute further on summer placement programs in the DMC. He is a features writer for gamedevelopers.ie (Irish Game Developers Association) and a frequent contributor to newspaper articles, magazines and radio interviews on media related topics. His research interests and projects range from virtual reality and visualization to serious games and e-learning. Details of which can be found on www.seriousgames.ie.

Outside of work his interests outside of gaming include triathlon where he has competed at national and international level, is a level II international technical official and has project managed the hosting of the European Triathlon Championships in Athlone in 2010.
